Police Helicopter and K-9 Unit Search Bridgehampton

A burglar alarm was set of on Lumber Lane Sunday night.

A Suffolk County Police helicopter and K-9 unit scoured Lumber Lane in Bridgehampton Sunday night in search of a burglar — but there may have been no burglar at all, according to .

Town police Sgt. Todd Bennett said an officer responded to a burglar alarm at around 7:30 p.m. According to chatter on police frequencies, police heard someone running away from 805 Lumber Ln and tracks were found around the house, but the police K-9 unit lost the scent because of wind.

Sgt. Bennett said detectives could not confirm that anything was taken from the Lumber Lane property — or that anyone was even there.

At around 9:45 p.m., Sgt. Bennett said the helicopter and K-9 unit had been called off for quite a while, but detectives were still on scene investigating.
