Police: Homeless Man Stole Cell Phones Out Of Cars
Police arrested Ruben Alvarez-Ortiz on Monday after he stole phones out of cars near CR-39 and Sandy Hollow Road in Southampton.

Southampton Police arrested a homeless man after he stole cell phones out of cars near Country Route 39 and Sandy Hollow Road in Southampton.
Police received a call about the the phones being stolen at about 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 20. The subject then ran away.
Officers responded and tracked the subject in to a wooded area where he was located, according to police.

After an investigation, the subject, Ruben Alvarez-Ortiz, 33, was arrested and brought to police headquarters for processing. He was charged with two counts of possession of stolen property in the fifth degree and false personation.
He was held overnight for arraignment in the morning.

Alvarez-Ortiz was sent to the Suffolk County Jail on a $1,500 bail.
