Police ID Man Killed On Reservation; Reward Offered For Info

Police are also looking for a man who they believe may have information on the incident, authorities say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — Police have identified the man shot and killed on the Shinnecock Reservation early Friday.

According to New York State Police, the man who died, Mtundo Vanterpool, 43, lived on the Reservation but was not a member.

New York State Police said they are asking for information regarding the location of Michael Gaines, 42, who also resided on the Shinnecock Reservation but was not a member. It is believed he has information regarding the investigation, police said.

According to New York State Police, a call came in at 5:35 a.m. Friday regarding the shooting; one person was pronounced dead of an apparent gunshot wound.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers has offered a $1,000 fast cash reward for information leading to an arrest in connection with the homicide. The fast cash reward will be issued within 72 hours to anyone who provides the information that leads to an arrest.
