Police ID Man Who Died After Driving Into Water In Hamptons
The man is believed to have had a medical episode, police say; both first responders and civilians tried valiantly to save him.

WATER MILL, NY — Police have identified the man who was pronounced dead after he drove into the water in the Hamptons, authorities said.
According to Southampton Town Police, Dennis R. Kelly, 73, of Sag Harbor, died on Thursday; a 911 call came in at 4:53 p.m. regarding a vehicle in the water on its side on Flying Point Rd. near Luther Dr. in Water Mill, police said.
When police arrived, they found a vehicle over the side of the bulkhead in approximately 2' feet of water, on its passenger side, with the driver unconscious in the driver’s seat, but not submerged, authorities said.

Both civilians and fire department personnel tried valiantly to remove the driver; the vehicle was intentionally rolled onto its wheels in the water and the driver removed, police said. CPR was conducted and Kelly transported to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased, police said.
A preliminary investigation indicates that the elderly driver suffered a medical emergency and left the roadway, driving into the water, police said.
