Police: Southampton Man Crashes Car, Attempts to Run Away From Police With Guns

The man was caught at the Shinnecock Indian Reservation, police said.

A Southampton man was arrested after crashing his car and attempting to run away from police with two long guns in Southampton on Thursday, Southampton Town Police reported on Monday.

Damon E. Moore, 47, drove an unregistered and uninsured car in a reckless manner eastbound on Montauk Highway near the intersection of Tuckahoe Lane, causing him to lose control and drive off the roadway crashing through hedges, shrubs, and fences, police said.

Moore then fled on foot armed with the guns while officers from the Southampton Town Police Department, the Southampton Village Police Department, and the New York State Troopers responded to the accident, according to police.

A short while later, State Troopers located Moore on the Shinnecock Indian Reservation where he was arrested on a New York State Police outstanding warrant and then transported to Southampton Town Police Headquarters, police said.

He was additionally charged with fourth degree ciminal possession of a weapon, fourth degree criminal mischief, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident, reckless driving, and four counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, police said.
