Preliminary Investigation Into Gunshot Death Indicates 'No Criminality': Police
The elderly woman died of a gunshot in her Payne Avenue in North Haven Monday — the same home where her mother died in 2008, police said.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY - A day after an elderly woman died of a gunshot wound at her home in North Haven, police said a preliminary investigation reveals "no criminality."
The death is believed to be a suicide, according to Southampton Town Det. Sgt. Lisa Costa.
Southampton Town Police detectives are investigating the death of Margaret Jean Burke, 83, who died of a gunshot wound at her home on Payne Avenue in North Haven on Monday, police said.

Police received a 911 call from a family member at 12:50 p.m. requesting help after finding Burke on the floor of the bathroom.
According to Costa, another death by gunshot took place at the house on Labor Day, 2008, when Burke's mother, Jessie Burke, 100, was murdered, shot in the back of the head.
