SOUTHAMPTON, NY — Hope was in the air recently as more than 500 came together to fight back against depression and anxiety.
On Sunday, August 6, The Hope for Depression Research Foundation’s 8th Annual 5K "Race of Hope" brought together the men, women, and children in Southampton Village in support of mental health awareness and research.
The event raised more than $275,000 for research into new and improved treatments for depression and anxiety. The award for the largest team went to Josh Gruss and his team, Team Fleming, with 45 members, organizers said.

HDRF Founder Audrey Gruss and board member Arthur Dunnam were grand marshals of the event alongside, for the first time, the two teen grand marshals: Grier Henchy, the 17-year-old daughter of Brooke Shields; and Hayden Lucas, a high school senior and leader of the newly-formed HDRF Teen Task Force. Earlier this year, Lucas worked with HDRF to launch the Inaugural Teen Race of Hope in May in New York City, organizers said.
Henchy was accompanied by her mother Brooke Shields, who was one of the first celebrities to speak openly about depression, organizers said.
