Sag Harbor Student Fundraising To Fuel Artistic Dream

All he wants is to see a Basquiat exhibit in Germany, to help shape his educational journey.

SAG HARBOR, NY — A young Sag Harbor artist has turned to GoFundMe to fuel his creative vision.

Max Mensch kicked off the "Calling All Art Lovers" page, explaining that he is currently an IB student at Pierson Middle/High school in Sag Harbor.

"One of the crucial components in completing the IB diploma is writing an extended essay for our class called 'Theory of Knowledge,'" he said. "This class embodies deep thinking, learning the ways of obtaining knowledge and consists of other essential components needed for analyzing different situations."

His extended essay for the class was centered around "a notorious artist" by the name of Basquiat who made a splash in the New York City street art scene during the 1980s.

His goal, Max said, "is to be able to go see one of his exhibits in Frankfurt, Germany, and to be able to bring information back home, to help interpret his style art in a more beneficial way to write my essay."
