School News - Week of April 28 - May 2

In honor of Earth Day on April 22nd, Mrs. Dansereau's and Mrs. Fischette's Pre-K classes will be planting potatoes in the Tuckahoe Community Garden.  The students are learning about recycling, gardening, and other ways to help keep our Earth clean.  They have been using interactive tools such as a SmartBoard to help integrate technology to their learning about plants, gardening, and Earth Day.  This is the second visit to the garden and definitely not the last!  The students in Pre-K will be participating in a visit sometime in the near future to help plant a pumpkin patch!  We are all so very excited about this wonderful opportunity for students to make real world connections to the learning that goes on every day in the classroom.  Mrs. Voegel’s and Mrs. Collins’ third grade classes celebrated Earth Day as well by planting sunflower seeds in biodegradable pots. The seeds were harvested from sunflowers that were grown by Mr. Dyer.  The children harvested the seeds in the fall, dried the seeds all winter, and replanted the seeds to show their appreciation for Earth!  The students will plant the biodegradable pots in our community garden when the weather is warmer.   Our Tuckahoe PTO will be having its annual Mother’s Day Plant Sale at 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 8th and Friday, May 9th on front lawn of the school building located at 468 Magee Street.  Support Tuckahoe’s Relay for Life Team!  Fight back cancer and have some fun!  Tuckahoe’s Relay for Life Team will be having the following fundraisers:  Car Wash on Friday, May 9th at 3:00-6:00 p.m., and a Chinese Auction on Friday, May 23rd at 7:00 at Southampton High School.  For further information, please contact Justine Charos at 283-3550 ext. 112 or our school nurse, Wendy Meyer at ext. 313.  Our Spring Concert Dates this year are Tuesday, May 20th, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. for grades Pre-Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd & 3rd; and Thursday, May 22nd at 6:30 p.m. for grades 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8.  Student Council is hosting the St. Baldrick’s Foundation Fundraiser on Tuesday, June 24th beginning at 10:00 a.m. on the Tuckahoe school grounds.
