School News - Week of April 7-11

Winter is finally behind us, so it's time to get busy in our gardens. Spinach, beets, snow peas, lettuce, onions, potatoes, and leeks will all be planted this month in the Tuckahoe School garden!  On Monday, April 7th the Pre-Kindergarten classes will be planting a crop of snow peas in the community garden, under the guidance of our Lunch Director, Matt Doris.  Students are learning about the life cycle of plants/seeds and how our community garden impacts our school and greater community.  The Pre-Kindergarten students are going to monitor the growth of their crop and assist in harvesting crops this year and into next.  Mrs. Collins’s second grade class will be presenting their Power Points on Australia to their parents on Tuesday, April 8th.  For the past several months, they have been diligently working on an Australian Unit of Study.  They have made beautiful boomerangs and didgeridoos at home, researched and created an informative Power Point Presentation and made Australian Aboriginal paintings in Art with Ms. Imperiale.  The students are very excited and proud of all their projects and would like to share them with their parents!  Spring School Picture Day this year is Tuesday, April 8th.  Support Tuckahoe’s Relay for Life Team!  Fight back cancer and have some fun!  Tuckahoe’s Relay for Life Team will be having the following fundraisers:  Easter Egg Hunt on Tuesday, April 8th at 2:50 p.m. in the school cafetorium; Car Wash on Friday, May 9th at 3:00-6:00 p.m.; and a Chinese Auction on Friday, May 23rd at 7:00 at Southampton High School.  For further information, please contact Justine Charos at 283-3550 ext. 112 or our school nurse, Wendy Meyer at ext. 313.  The CPR course for our Middle School students has been rescheduled to Thursday, April 10th from 2:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Tuckahoe School Library.  There is no cost for the course.  Tuckahoe’s Student Council will be paying for all of the materials and the Southampton Ambulance will be doing the training course.  If you need additional information about the CPR course and/or the middle school dance, please contact Mrs. Kerry Terry at 283-3550 ext. 122.  Parent/Teacher Conferences for the 3rd marking period are on Thursday, April 24th and Friday April 15th; students will have early dismissal at 11:23 a.m. on both of these dates.  .  Taste of Tuckahoe tickets are now on sale at TasteofTuckahoe.com, at Southrifty Drug and from committee members.
