School News - Week of June 9-13

Be A Scientist!”  On Friday, May 23rd, Mrs. Sicari and Mrs. Gray’s sixth grade students explored the states of matter in a creative lab setting.  Students differentiated between solids, liquids and gases.  They made polymer “Phlubber” and started a crystal garden to take home.  Finally, experimentation culminates in the production of a particularly tasty crystallized concoction better known as ice cream!  On Thursday, May 29th Ms. Imperiale, Mrs. Collins and Mrs. Voegel took the Tuckahoe third grade to the lighthouse in Montauk.  The students began their day by walking on the beach and learning about erosion.  Items were collected from the beach which will be brought back to class for a lesson on water displacement.  After that, the students got an informational tour of the lighthouse and then climbed all 132 steps to the top.  The day ended with the students sketching the lighthouse and painting with water color paints and water collected from the ocean.  The students were able to enjoy Art, Science and Social Studies lessons all in this one action packed day.  Fun was had by all!
