'Sex and the City' Author Thanks Good Samaritan Who Rescued Dog From Icy Pond
BREAKING: The rescue at Sagg Pond took place Wednesday as a hero saved Candace Bushnell's beloved Pepper from the frigid waters.

SAGAPONACK, NY — Candace Bushnell, author best known for "Sex in the City," has written a heartfelt message to the good Samaritans who came together to rescue her beloved dog, Pepper, from an icy Sagaponack Pond on Wednesday.
"Thank you, thank you 2 everyone who helped rescue Pepper from icy depths of Sagaponack Pond. Both dogs home and ok," she wrote in a Tweet.
According to Southampton Town Police Lieutenant Susan Ralph, the call came in at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Sagg Pond. A good Samaritan, who had been fishing and was wearing waders, had come to the rescue of a dog who had fallen through the ice, she said.

Southampton Town Police Sgt. James Cavanagh said, on Thursday, that, according to Southampton Town Police Sgt. Mike Burns, who was on the scene, there were two dogs at the scene belonging to Bushnell, but only one had fallen through the ice.
Cavanagh said he believed a woman, possibly Bushnell, had also gone out onto the ice and fallen through, but that was not confirmed by Bushnell's Tweet; the woman was able to get back to shore safely, he said.

One man, trying to help, went out on the ice, then went home to get a boat, Cavanagh said.
And finally, another man, a duck hunter wearing waders, tried to reach the dog but couldn't get to the poodle. He headed to a nearby estate and borrowed a kayak. "He went out with the kayak and got the dog," Cavanagh said.
Rather than stay and receive thank for his heroism, Cavanagh said the good Samaritan headed back to return the kayak and went on his way.
No one was injured, but the pooch was taken to a local veterinary hospital for observation, he said.
Southampton Town Police, bay constables, and animal control, as well as the Bridgehampton Fire Department, all came together to save the pup from the frigid waters.
