Sophia Brous | Would You Share a Lullaby?
The Watermill Center. December 19, 2015 - 11:00am - 3:00pm

Lullaby Movement is a contemporary performance project exploring lullaby ritual from around the world created by Australian performer Sophia Brous and British musicians David Coulter and Leo Abrahams. It was originally commissioned by Urbantheatre Projects for the Sydney Festival 2015.
The project focuses on ancient and contemporary lullaby repertoire in a part-song-cycle, part-inter-disciplinary theatre work, and explores their unique qualities as artefacts of creative and social expression.

In January 2016, the project’s trio of performers will be coming to Watermill as artists-in-residence to develop the next stage of the work into a full-length song cycle incorporating choreography, staging and production design.

In preparation, vocalist Sophia Brous will be coming to the Watermill in December to conduct a series of public participation research workshops where she is asking as many members of the community as possible to contribute their own family or community lullabies to form the basis of the next repertoire for Lullaby Movement. She has undertaken similar research periods in Australia and Europe, where she is taught melodies, language and any physicalized movement of lullaby rituals from across Asia, Europe, the Americas, Europe and the Middle East.
Watermill is asking for our extended cultural network to be a part of this very special project by contributing your lullabies to Brous’ research residency in either one-on-one or group sessions.
