Southampton Animal Shelter Flies to the Rescue Again!
On Kate McEntee's 4th Mission with Lighthouse Animal Rescue in Puerto Rico to save the satos!
Kate McEntee of the Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation (SASF) with our friends at Animal Lighthouse Rescue, flew on their 4th trip to bring back more "satos" (street dogs) in Puerto Rico on April 27th. Our friends at the El Faro Shelter in Humacao became overcrowded due to the recent closing of a neighboring shelter. David Brownstein, founder of the non profit, Animal Lighthouse Rescue and Board member of Los Faros de Los Animales, will transport the animals in his private plane, as he has done many times before. In order to bring up as many as possible, there will be an additional plane transporting some of the dogs torescues in New Jersey as well!
In September 2015, SASF Marketing Director Kate McEntee and Clinic Director, Teri Meekins, DVM, along with David Brownstein, spearheaded the first mission inviting other rescue organizations to take in some of the 70 dogs and cats.

Ms. McEntee says, "Some of the satos are the lucky ones to end up in the El Faro shelter, after trying to survive along with over 300,000 other homeless pets. Puerto Rico is about the size of Connecticut & the sheer numbers of stray and abandoned street animals are in dire need of spay and neuter and other medical services."
Liza Arias, Director of El Faro de Los Animales, tells this story: "While Kate & Julie Sinaw, Director of Animal Lighthouse Rescue, were rescuing a little white dog that we saw standing in the road, all of a sudden a large brown dog came running out from behind the bushes. She knew we were saving her friend and wanted to go with him. 'Katie' was rescued by El Faro and is now coming to the Hamptons to look for her forever home. We named her Katie after SASF's rescuer Kate McEntee!"
Accompanying Katie will be Paco, a Great Dane, Clint the maltese, and an adorable dog named Brandi who has a lions mane! "SASF always chooses the dogs that are most desperately in need." Ms. McEntee exclaimed."Those left behind, wait and hope to make it on the next trip!" Liza Arias said.
The plane will be met on the tarmac by SASF & Animal Lighthouse Rescue, the Humane Society of Atlantic City, ARF Hamptons, and Nola's Furry Friends.to unload each animal into their awaiting transports.
The flight is scheduled to arrive at the Francis Gabreski Airport at 150 Riverhead Road, in Westhampton on Saturday, May 1st at around noon.
