Southampton Assistant Principal Appears in Profane Hip-Hop Music Video

The video was posted to YouTube on Monday. School district officials not pleased.

Southampton High School Assistant Principal Esther Adler-O’Keefe has drawn criticism for her appearance in a newly released hip-hop music video, but she says she was unaware of the video’s profane content when she agreed to appear in it.

Adler-O’Keefe can be spotted briefly in the music video for the song ”Best Friends” by rapper J.R. featuring popular artist Trey Songz.

Adler-O’Keefe appears only in the beginning and the end of the video, which was posted on YouTube on Monday, playing a woman who leaves her house with J.R. while she goes away with her husband.

During their absence, J.R. hosts a party with women, drugs and alcohol until they return at the end of the video to find a mess and people sleeping with alcohol and drugs all around the house.

Adler-O’Keefe only says six words in the entire video: “Enjoy yourself. Just remember, security’s here.”

Some students were entertained by her participation in the video, including one who left a YouTube comment reading: ”The lady who owns the house is my vice principal!” but Southampton school district officials are not too happy about Adler-O’Keefe’s participation in the video, which includes plenty of profane language.

“The video in question showcases behaviors and language use that is not promoted by the Southampton School District,” Superintendent Dr. Scott Farina told 27east. “In fact, we actively teach our students the importance of good character and making smart choices. Additionally, this is not representative of who we are as a district, nor of our students and staff.”

Adler-O’Keefe told 27east that she was unaware of the “content, lyrics, and title of the video and song” when she agreed to be in it.

“Had I known of such content or lyrics, I certainly would not have participated in any fashion. I find the lyrics and content of the music video vulgar, offensive, and demeaning,” she said in an e-mail to 27east.

Rose Marie Oliviero, a Southampton parent, defended Adler-O’Keefe, telling ABC 7: “Esther is awesome. She is absolutely awesome. She’s an amazing woman and she has the best interests of the kids at heart.”
