Southampton Board Of Education Rejects State Grant For Longer School Days

The Board voted at Tuesday's meeting to reject the state grant the district received last week that would have extended the school day.

At the meeting on Tuesday, the Southampton Board of Education voted to reject the state grant it received last week, (read the story on Patch) according to 27east.

The $2.6 million state grant would have extended extended the school day by 300 hours a year for two years for the elementary school and/or intermediate school.

At the meeting, members expressed their concerns stating an extended day program would “take considerable resources to implement by next year,” 27east reports.
