🌱 Southampton Daily: Narcan Training + NAACP Speaks On KKK Ad
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Southampton.

Up and at 'em, Southampton! Diane Witek here to get you all caught up to start this Saturday, Feb. 19 off on an informed note. Here's everything worth knowing today in town.
First, today's weather:
A snow shower in the p.m. High: 40, Low: 19.
Here are the top stories today in Southampton:
- There will be an in-person seminar on Narcan at the Westhampton Beach Fire Department on March 16 from 6-9 p.m. According to the Town's press release, Southampton Town Councilman Rick Martel will be partnering with Sheriff Errol Toulon for this seminar on administering naloxone, known as Narcan. In this training, you will be trained on the use of Narcan, a highly effective antidote for opioid overdoses. To sign up, please email May Zegarelli at mzegarelli@southamptontownny.gov or 631-287-5745. There are limited spaces available. (Press Release Desk)
- The Suffolk County Historical Society posted a 1920s advertisement for a Ku Klux Klan meeting as their photo of the week. Southampton Historical Museum posted similar photos. "I want to find out what was going through everyone's mind to decide to post something like this," Eastern Long Island NAACP President Lawrence Street said. Both historical societies took down the post and the Suffolk County Historical Society apologized. But Street said it should not have happened in the first place. (News 12 Bronx)
- Looking for things to do this week? Look no further than your own town, enjoy "Brooks-Park: The Intersection of Art and Nature," or Eating for Strength and Recovery, and last but certainly not least, "Celebrating African American Achievements in the Entertainment Industry." (Southampton Patch)
- A new day dawned in downtown Riverhead as the owner of the popular Lucharitos taquerias opened the doors to Luchacubano, a sandwicheria and rum bar on East Main Street Friday. Luchacubano, located at 87 East Main Street — at the site of Sunny's Riverhead Diner & Grill, which opened in 1932 and closed due to the pandemic — will serve up roast pork and plantains, coffee and mojitos, and be infused with "Miami vibes," owner Marc LaMaina said. (Riverhead Patch)
From my notebook:
- Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation: "Meet 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗵! 🐕 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗵 is a beautiful Shepherd mix looking for love. She is 3 and a half years old and weighs 60 pounds. She is a happy, playful girl. She enjoys long walks and playing in the fenced in yard." (Facebook) (Website)
- Southampton School District Information: "Boys Varsity Basketball Playoff Game: the game will be played on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Sachem East High School. If you plan to attend the game, here is the link to purchase tickets." (Facebook) (Website)
