Southampton Music Teacher Tapped For Prestigious Post

Danielle Schulman will be appointed as president of the Suffolk County Music Educators' Association, effective July, 2022.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A Southampton music teacher has been tapped for a prestigious position.

The Southampton School District announced Thursday that intermediate school band director Danielle Schulman will be appointed as president of the Suffolk County Music Educators’ Association, effective July 2022.

“We are very proud of Danielle and excited for her to hold this position,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Nicholas Dyno.

Schulman said when she takes the helm at the student music program, she plans to continue to support the tradition of providing student-musicians in Suffolk County with performance opportunities and educators with subject specific professional development workshops.

Schulman has been teaching in the Southampton School District since 2005, when she started her career in the high school as a music teacher, class adviser, director of musicals, jazz ensemble director and pep band/marching band director, the district said. In 2015, she transferred to the intermediate school as director of the concert band and jazz ensemble, the district added.

Schulman holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in music education from Long Island University, C.W. Post and an Master of Arts with a concentration in wind conducting from Hofstra University.

Outside of the district, she performs with the North Shore Community Band under the direction of James MacDougall, serves as a Hamptons Music Educators Association co-chairperson for world drumming and is an active adjudicator for the New York State School Music Association festivals.

She is also a professional member of other music associations. Within SCMEA, Schulman has served as the Division III East band chairperson, assistant vice president of festivals for the east region, and co-vice president of festivals.
