South Fork School Budget Votes Tuesday

Four candidates are seeking two seats in the Southampton Board of Education race.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — Voters began heading to the polls Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Southampton Intermediate School to weigh in on the 2017 - 2018 school budget.

The $68,847,113 budget reflects a spending increase of 1.7 percent and a tax levy increase of 3.5 percent, and does not pierce the state tax cap.

Four candidates are vying for two open Board of Education seats, with incumbent Andrew Brindle, Sunhe Sherwood-Dudley, Jacqueline Robinson and Natalie Sisco in the running.

Residents will also vote on a proposition to establish "the 2017 Ten Year Capital Reserve Fund," for future alterations, repairs, and reconstruction of school facilities, in an amount not to exceed $20 million, with not more than $3 million per year.

Also voted upon will be a proposition for the expenditure of $230,000 to replace a 48-passenger bus and two 20 passenger vans for the Southampton bus fleet.

Shall the Board of Education be authorized to establish a Capital Reserve Fund, entitled, "The 2017 Ten Year Capital Reserve Fund" for future alterations, repairs, and reconstruction of school facilities; for a probably term of ten (10) years; in an amount not to exceed $20,000,000; to be funded in an amount not to exceed $3,000,000 in any year during the probable term with such funds to be obtained from end of budget year surplus funds and/or budget appropriations.

Voters will also weigh in an $1.2 million in improvements from the 2007 Ten Year Capital Reserve Fund, for various building improvements.

Voting will continue through 9 p.m.

Sag Harbor Union Free School District

The proposed 2017-2018 $39.9 million budget reflects a budget to budget increase of 2.92 percent and a projected tax levy increase of 3.49 percent.

The budget does not pierce the state tax cap.

Voting continues through 9 p.m. at the Pierson High School gym.

Five candidates, including Alex Kriegsman, Theresa Samot, Sandi Kruel, January Kerr and Diana Kolhoff are vying for three open BOE seats.

Bridgehampton Union Free School District

The 2017-2018 budget of $14,356,463 reflects a proposed increase of 4.20 percent and a tax levy increase of 5.54 percent.

Two candidates are running an uncontested race for school board, with Kathleen McCleland and Markanthony Verzosa on the ballot.

The vote takes place from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the school gym.

Tuckahoe Common School District

The 2017-2018 budget of $20,167,600 reflects a 4.5 percent increase and a 4.28 percent tax levy.

Robert Grisnik is running unopposed for his BOE seat.

The vote takes place from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Sagaponack Common School District

The district has pitched a $1.7 million, with no projected increase. BOE member Brian Villante is running unopposed for his seat.

Remsenburg-Speonk Union Free School District

The 2017-2018 budget of $13,526,371 budget reflects a 2.26 percent budget increase and a proposition to create a capital reserve fund.

BOE President Deidre LeVita is running unopposed to retain her seat.

Voting takes place through 9 p.m. on Mill Road in Remsenburg.

East Quogue Union Free School District

Voters will weigh in on the proposed $24.4 million budget.

Three newcomers will vie for two open seats, including Richard King, Brian Babcock, and Kristin Jankowski.

Voting will take place until 9 p.m.

Quogue Union Free School District

Residents will vote on a 2017-2018 proposed budget of $8.1 million, which reflects a 2.82 percent change.

As incumbent Larry Berman steps down, three candidates, Malcolm "Jock" McLean, Edmund Moore and Kathryn Paling are running for his seat.

Voting takes place through 8 p.m.
