Southampton School District Adds 2 New Hires

Two new hires will fill the positions of Southampton school transportation supervisor and director of school safety,

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — Two new administrators have brought onboard by the Southampton School District,

During the April 4 Southampton School District Board of Education meeting, the board appointed Henry Adelwerth Jr. and Mark Hannan as school transportation supervisor and director of school safety, respectively. Both positions are effective July 1.

Adelwerth is responsible for overseeing the district’s transportation department, including establishing bus routes and time schedules for students and drivers and planning the budgetary needs of the department. He has more than 40 years of experience in the pupil transportation business. During his years at Adelwerth Bus Corporation, he was responsible for hiring drivers and mechanics, overseeing the daily operations of student transportation, and serving as the liaison between the bus company and school administrators, a release said.

As director of school safety, Hannan will supervise, schedule and set procedures for all school safety personnel. Among other responsibilities, he will also be charged with developing and implementing a school safety plan and overseeing the safety and security of all students, staff and visitors.

A former resident of Long Island, Hannan joins the district from Wheaton Warrenville South High School in Wheaton, Illinois, where he worked as the student supervisor. Previously, he worked as an auxiliary police officer in the Wheaton Police Department and as a special agent for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Hannan received his bachelor’s degree from Loras College, the release added.

“We are pleased to welcome Mr. Adelwerth and Mr. Hannan to Southampton Public Schools,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Nicholas J. Dyno. “I look forward to working with both of them in the coming school year.”

The news comes after the recent announcement of two staffers appointed to permanent positions, as well as the appointment of Dyno to the position of permanent Superintendent of Schools in March.
