SOUTHAMPTON, NY — All Southampton schools were evacuated after an email threat Monday morning, the district said.

According to Southampton Village Police Det. Sgt. Herm Lamison, at about 10:34 a.m., a call came in from the Southampton school district's security team, stating that the district office had received an email from an unknown recipient.

"I placed bombs inside of every school from Southampton," the email said, according to Lamison. "The bombs will explode in a few hours. A lot of people will die. You all deserve to die."

Southampton Village Police immediately dispatched police units to Southampton High School, Southampton Intermediate School, and Southampton Elementary School, Lamison said.

The Southampton school district sent a message to all parents and staff saying that due to the email threat "all schools have been evacuated," with students evacuated at other locations.

"Students will not be allowed back in the buildings," the district said.

New York State Police, K-9 units and members of the Southampton Town Police Department assisted in the search for any devices, police said.

About 1,300 students and staff that were evacuated from the buildings, Lamison said.

At 2:35 p.m., all buildings and grounds were turned back over to the Southampton School District with no devices found.

In addition, Our Lady of the Hamptons, Southampton Day Care, the Childrens’ School, and Alternatives for Children School were searched, and no devices were found, police said.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to call Southampton Village Police Detectives at 631-283-0056.
