Southampton Sgt. Bids Adieu After 38 Years Of Service

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — Southampton Town Police Sgt. Herbert Johnson closed the door on 38 years of service at a walkout ceremony held in his honor.
Surrounded by his colleagues, Johnson signed off for the last time on Jan. 30. He began his career with the New York City Police Department in 1984. After eight years with NYPD, working in the highway unit, Johnson was hired by the Quogue Village Police Department.
In 1995, Johnson was hired by the Southampton Town Police Department. He initially worked as a member of the patrol unit, becoming a drug recognition expert and utilizing that training to keep the Southampton Town Community safe from impaired drivers, officials said.

In 2007, Herb Johnson was promoted to sergeant, where he spent the remainder of his career supervising and teaching young officers.
