Southampton Student Named National Hispanic Scholar

Shea Rodriguez not only excels academically, she loves theater, music, and giving back to her school and the community, the district says.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A Southampton High School senior has made her hometown proud.

Shea Rodriguez has been recognized by the College Board’s National Hispanic Recognition Program as a National Hispanic Scholar, the Southampton Union Free School District said.

She was honored after scoring in the top 2.5 percent of all PSAT/NMSQT test takers in her junior year and by maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, the district said.

In addition to her academic success, Rodriguez also participates in her school’s theater program and theater programs outside of school; she has garnered many Teeny Award nominations.

Shea also believes in giving back: She delivers the morning announcements at her school, helps with the Special Olympics, and volunteers at the Heart of the Hamptons, Southampton Youth Task Force and Act Two. Earlier this year, she was named to the Suffolk County Music Educators’ Association All-County Vocal Jazz Ensemble, the district said.
