Southampton Town Trustees Purchase Beach In Flanders
Trustees purchased the four acres of land from the Suffolk County Legislature at $41,000 on Tuesday, Sept. 9.

Southampton Town Trustees have purchased four acres of beach overlooking Reeves Bay in Flanders for the first time since state law enabled them was enacted last year.
The Suffolk County Legislature last week approved the purchase of the land at the end of Long Neck Boulevard on Tuesday Sept 9.
The county has own the land for about 3 years before selling it to the trustees for $41,000.

“The reason why [we purchased the land] was because all over the county, sand is dredged for projects and there is a need for an area to deposit the sand on,” Southampton Town Trustees President Eric Schultz said. “As more land gets developed, there are fewer spots for the county to dredge the sand.”
Schultz also said that the trustees are looking forward to using the law to purchase more wetland parcels.
