Spelling Bee Back In Southampton After Pandemic Pause

Students in the Southampton Intermediate School recently competed for a chance to move on to the national spelling bee.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A beloved tradition was back this month as, after a pandemic pause, students in the Southampton Intermediate School summoned up their best skills and participated in a spelling bee.

Students in grades 5 to 8 competed individually in their classrooms, with the top-scoring students moving into a second, schoolwide competition. Taking first place was fifth grader Brooklyn DeVito, who will now move on to the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
