Events began at Pierson on Sept. 21 with a pep rally, class versus class competitions, a lip sync battle and the Sag Harbor PTSA homecoming celebration with food trucks, games and music.
The high school students had an early start in the village on Sept. 22 to stage their floats and practice skits prior to the parade. Under brilliant blue skies, students got into the spirit as they portrayed characters related to popular TV shows. The freshmen recreated Pierson’s version of “SpongeBob SquarePants,” sophomores chose “American Ninja Warrior,” juniors opted for “Grey’s Anatomy,” and the seniors got tfirst pick with “The Office.”

Superintendent Katy Graves led the parade down Main Street, driving in a classic convertible with the 2018 homecoming court seniors Paige Schaefer and Sage Witty. Other court members included ninth-graders Lillian McGuire and Brendan Burke, 10th-graders Vivienne Witty and Ryan Brown, and Sydney Sepp and Yanni Bitis, representing grade 11.
The procession followed with cheers from the crowd lining the street and good-natured taunts between the students’ floats as they made their way to Mashashimuet Park for the annual class skits competition, the district said.
Ninth graders searched for the school’s secret crab cake recipe, Grade 10 characters resembling familiar teachers and staff competed for an air conditioner, the juniors helped “Mr. Bramoff,” who was feeling his age and needed a walker, and the seniors tried to sell paper to “Ms. Graves” and the Sag Harbor School District, school officials said. The day wrapped up with field hockey and soccer games between alumni, staff and parents, Pierson Field Hockey vs. Miller Place and Varsity Boys Soccer vs. Mattituck, the district said.
The winners of the skit competition were announced on Sept. 24, with 11th grade taking first place.
