Stony Brook Southampton Hospital Gets "C" On Hospital Report Card

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — Stony Brook Southampton Hospital received a "C" grade in hospital safety, according to The Leapfrog Group, which explains that its rating system is focused entirely on errors, accidents, injuries and infections.

The hospital safety grades are released by the nonprofit group twice a year, in the spring and in the fall.

In the most recent report, only three hospitals on Long Island received an "A". Four received B grades, 13 received C grades and two received D grades. None received the lowest F grade.

A representative for the hospital discussed the report with Patch: "Stony Brook Southampton Hospital supports the public availability of quality and safety information about hospitals; we are constantly looking for ways to improve and to ensure that we are consistently offering the highest quality of care," said Barbara-Jo Howard, director of communications and marketing, Stony Brook Southampton Hospital

Maine, Utah, Virginia, Oregon and North Carolina had the highest percentage of hospitals that received an A grade. Three states — Wyoming, Alaska and North Dakota — did not have a single hospital that received an A grade.
