Thief Caught, Stole Credit Cards At U.S. Open In Hamptons: Cops

He used the credit cards in several counties to make purchases at retail stores, police say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A Patchogue man was arrested Tuesday after stealing credit cards at the Southampton's Sebonack Golf Club during the U.S. Open Golf Championship in June, police said.

According to New York State Police, James J. Massaro, 53, used credit cards stolen at the event in several counties to make purchases at a number of retail stores.

He was arrested and charged with one count of third degree burglary, a felony, two counts of fourth degree grand larceny, a felony, one count of criminal possession of stolen property, a felony, and one count of unlawful use of a credit card, a misdemeanor, police said.

Massaro was arraigned at Southampton Justice Court, remanded to the Suffolk County Correctional Facility, and is due back in court on Thursday, police said.
