Town Board to Make Final Decision on Proposed Development Next Month
The board closed the public comment period after a hearing held last week.

The Southampton Town Board will be making a final decision on the proposed Canoe Place Inn planned development district in Hampton Bays at a meeting scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 13, according to 27east.
The board closed the public comment period after a hearing on Tuesday, Dec. 10. The plan will involve residential development along east side of the canal and the renovation and reopening of the Canoe Place Inn on the opposite shore, 27east reports.
Several Hampton Bays residents criticized the plan during the hearing last week, claiming the development is ‘too intense’ and opposing the suggestions of changes to the waterfront land, 27east reports. Meanwhile, supporters ‘applauded’ the proposed renovation and the influx of new taxes it would bring, benefiting the local school district and the ’economic potential’ of the plan, according to 27east.
