Town Kicks Off Banner Program To Honor Military Heroes
"It's a way for us to recognize and remember the sacrifices made by those in our community who have served our nation."

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — Southampton Town officials and the Westhampton VFW Post 5350 have come together to honor the nation's heroes.
In honor of Veterans Day, Southampton Town Councilwoman Cyndi McNamara introduced the “Hometown Heroes Banner Program” at this week's work session.
Personalized banners will be displayed at Good Ground Park in Hampton Bays from Memorial Day to Veterans Day to honor local military service members, both past and present.

“I’m proud to bring this program to the Town of Southampton,” said McNamara, liaison to the veterans affairs committee. “It’s a way for us to recognize and remember the sacrifices made by those in our community who have served our nation.”
Participants in the “Hometown Heroes Program” will be able to honor those who are currently serving or have served in the U.S. military, and who are, or were, a resident of the Town of Southampton, by sponsoring and purchasing a custom banner from Westhampton VFW Post 5350.

Each banner will include a photo and information detailing the hero's military service. All program sponsors will keep their banners.
A resolution authorizing the funding for the banner poles and brackets is scheduled for the November 22 town board meeting. Applications for the program will be available in January 2023 on a first-come, first served basis, with one banner per sponsor.
