Truck Crashes Into School Bus On LI, Driver Airlifted: Police
Six children and the school bus driver were treated for minor injuries, police say.

RIVERSIDE, NY — A box truck driver was airlifted after he crashed into a school bus in Riverside Monday afternoon, police said.
The school bus driver and six children were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment of minor injuries, police said.
According to Southampton Town Police, the crash happened at 4:15 p.m. on New York State Route 24 in Riverside when the truck hit a Riverhead Central School District bus.

The driver of the box truck, Juan I. Gillen Jimenez, was transported by Suffolk County Police aviation to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries; he is in stable condition, police said.
The box truck was impounded to Southampton Town Police Department headquarters for a safety check.

Southampton Town Police patrol officers and detectives responded and were assisted by a New York State Police motor carrier safety unit, police said.
Westhampton War Memorial Ambulance, Flanders-Northampton Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Southampton Volunteer Ambulance, Mattituck Fire Department ambulance, the Flanders Fire Department and Riverhead Volunteer Fire Department responded and assisted at the scene, police said.
Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman said there were about 24 children on the bus.
