The U.S. premiere of Offenbach’s one-act
operetta “The Babysitter” (La Bonne D’Enfant)
will come to the Nova’s Ark Project on Sunday August 25th at 3:00
pm. The one-hour performance
of Offenbach’s comedic piece is geared towards children and families and will
be presented as part of Salome Chamber Orchestra’s music festival.
Divaria Productions has unearthed and will perform a
delightful adaptation of Offenbach’s very rare early work. It’s doubtful the opera has been
performed in America and no commercial recording exists. While the opera is a
send up of 1860s Parisian society, many of the parallels to the present are
amusing. The dialogue has
been translated to English and the fusion of melodious French arias with biting
dialogue makes the work enticing to audiences across the age spectrum.
