SOUTHAMPTON, NY — As Veterans Day approaches on November 11, local young people and organizations banded together to pay tribute to the nation's heroes.

In honor of Veterans Day, members of Southampton High School’s Mariners Patriot Club, along with local Boy Scouts and veteran organizations, continued their tradition of placing 1,200 flags on the graves of veterans at Sacred Hearts and Southampton cemeteries.

The flags will be collected by the volunteers after Veterans Day, district officials said.
