Village Police Prep for Romney Fundraiser, Protest
In advance of Republican presidential candidate's event and a demonstration by the opposition, Secret Service pay Southampton Village Police Department a visit.
The U.S. Secret Service met with Southampton Village Police Chief Tom Cummings Friday afternoon in anticipation of protests surrouding for to a campaign fundraiser on Sunday.
The $50,000-per-person fundraiser at billionaire industrialist David Koch's oceanfront estate on Meadow Lane is slated to start at 5 p.m. Sunday, but several activist groups say they will begin meeting at 3 p.m. at the parking lot to mobilize a march to the border of Koch's property and picket the event.
Organizers — such as the millions David and Charles Koch spend to boost conservative causes and against President Barack Obama.

“The Long Island Progressive Coalition is busy coordinating a network of Long Island groups who won’t stand by while their backyard is used for Koch and Romney to fund a regressive political agenda,” said Lisa Tyson, the director to the Long Island Progressive Coalition.

The protest will include members of The Long Island Progressive Coalition, Greenpeace, Move to Amend, ALIGN NY, Art Not War, Strong For All, MoveOn.org, United New York, Occupy the East End, Occupy the Hamptons, and many more groups affiliated with the Occupy Wall Street movement.

MoveOn plans to fly a banner that reads “Romney has a Koch problem” and bring its "Romneymobile Cadillac," with corporate decals on the side, a stuffed animal on top representing Romney's dog, Seamus, who Romney admittedly put in a kennel carrier and strapped to the roof of his vechicle during family trips.
The Romney campaign did not reply to requests for comment after the demonstration was announced last week.
Southampton Village Administrator Stephen Funsch said it is doubtful the village will recover any of the police overtime costs it may incur because of the event and protest. The village put a reimbursement claim in two years ago when Vice President Joe Biden visited on vacation, but has yet to receive a check from the Secret Service, he said. during Memorial Day weekend in 2011 as well, but has not made an appearance in Southampton in 2012.
Last Labor Day weekend, Mitt and Ann Romney attended on Further Lane and he was scheduled to attend a fundraiser at the Southampton home of hedge fund manager John Paulson and wife Jenny.
According to Politico.com and leaked invitations, Romney has two other fundraisers lined up in the Hamptons on Sunday, another on Meadow Lane hosted by Cliff Sobel, an ambassador to Brazil under George W. Bush, and one by billionaire Ronald Perelman, the CEO of MacAndrews & Forbes Holdings Inc., at his 57-acre East Hampton estate known as The Creeks. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor will also attend the fundraiser at The Creeks.
