Woman Grabbed Wheel During Dispute In Car, Swerved Into Traffic: PD
The woman also physically attacked the driver, police say.
SAG HARBOR, NY — A woman was arrested and charged after a dispute during which she grabbed the wheel while another woman was driving, causing the vehicle to swerve into traffic, police said.
According to Southampton Town Police, the incident took place Sunday at 6:36 p.m. on Long Beach Road in Sag Harbor. Stacy Marie Engman, 45, of New York, NY was arrested and charged with second-degree reckless endangerment, a misdemeanor, and second-degree harassment, a violation, police said.
The women were traveling in a motor vehicle when they engaged in a verbal dispute, police said. The dispute escalated when Engman pulled on the arms of the female driver and attempted to take hold of the steering wheel while the vehicle was in motion, causing the vehicle to swerve into oncoming traffic and creating a "substantial risk" of serious physical injury to another person, police said.

Then, after the driver parked the vehicle in a Long Beach parking lot, Engman proceeded to physically attack the driver by pulling her hair, grabbing her arms and scratching her, causing visible marks on her body, police said.
Engman was processed at Southampton Town Police headquarters then released on an appearance ticket with a future arraignment date, police said.
