Wrong-Way Driver Charged With Driving Under Influence Of Drugs: Police
The incident took place on Sunrise Highway, police say.
SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A Freeport man was arrested and charged with driving the wrong way on Sunrise Highway while under the influence of drugs, police said.
According to Southampton Town Police, the incident took place Sunday at 9:01 p.m.; numerous 911 calls came in about the "reckless" driver heading east in the westbound lane in the hamlet of Southampton, police said.
Wilbert Giddiens, 61, was arrested and charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, a misdemeanor, reckless driving, a misdemeanor, and numerous traffic infractions, police said.

Giddiens was processed at Southampton Town Police headquarters and held for morning arraignment, police said.
