
Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrests of three Putnam County residents on drug possession charges.
- At 8:53 p.m. Aug. 2, Deputy Sheriff Jonathan Irwin stopped a motorist who had committed a traffic violation on Bryant Pond Road in the Town of Putnam Valley. The deputy alleges that the driver, identified as Anthony V. Martin, 24, of 62 Craescot Way, Mahopac was in possession of heroin, crack cocaine and powdered cocaine. The deputy arrested Martin and charged him with three counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, a misdemeanor. He was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and released pending a future appearance in the Town of Putnam Valley Justice Court. If found guilty of the misdemeanor charges, the defendant could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000 for each charge.
- At 9:26 p.m. Aug. 3, Deputy Sheriff Christopher Irwin stopped a motorist who had committed traffic violations on Route 312 in the Town of Southeast. The deputy alleges that the driver, identified as Dawn M. Variara, 38, of 17 Olympus Drive, Mahopac was in possession of quantities of cocaine and heroin. The deputy arrested Variara and charged her with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, a misdemeanor. She was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and released pending a future appearance in the Town of Southeast Justice Court to answer the charges. If found guilty of the misdemeanor charges, the defendant could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000 for each charge.
- At 6:50 p.m. Aug. 2, Deputy Sheriff Jonathan Irwin stopped a motorist who had committed traffic violations on the Taconic State Parkway in the Town of Putnam Valley. Upon approach, the deputy detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the interior of the vehicle. The deputy identified the driver as Daniel R. Hutchby, 31, of 12 Rochelle Road in the Lake Carmel section of the Town of Kent. The deputy alleges that Hutchby was in possession of a glass pipe containing marijuana and a hypodermic needle. The deputy further determined that Hutchby was wanted by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office on an arrest warrant. The deputy arrested Hutchby and charged him with Criminally Possessing a Hypodermic Instrument, a misdemeanor, and with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, a violation. He was processed at the scene and turned over to the custody of the DCSO pending a future appearance in the Town of Putnam Valley Justice Court to answer the charges. If found guilty of the misdemeanor charge, the defendant could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.
