2 Arrested, 3rd Suspect Sought After I-684 Stolen Car Chase: NYSP

The two that were captured were arraigned in the Town of Southeast Court and remanded to the Putnam County Jail, according to investigators.

SOUTHEAST, NY — A police chase on a Hudson Valley highway ended with two in custody and a third suspect still at large.

The New York State Police say that on April 10, around 4:09 a.m., troopers from Brewster tried to stop a vehicle traveling north on I-684, in the Town of Southeast, that had been reported stolen by Westchester Real Time Crime.

The driver of the 2018 Nissan failed to comply, and a pursuit of the vehicle began. A second NYSP unit saw the vehicle and deployed a stinger device on I-84 east, near mile marker 70, disabling it.

Three occupants then fled the Nissan on foot on foot.

The driver, identified as 24-year-old Isaias M. Mendez, of Wethersfield, Connecticut, and a passenger, 24-year-old Dwayne A. Graham, of Broad Brook, Connecticut, were soon taken into custody.

A third occupant, described as a Hispanic male in his 20s, was not found.

Mendez and Graham were taken to State Police Brewster for processing.

Mendez was charged with felony third-degree criminal possession of stolen property; misdemeanor third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle; misdemeanor reckless endangerment; misdemeanor resisting arrest; misdemeanor second-degree obstructing governmental administration; and misdemeanor reckless driving.

Graham was charged with felony third-degree criminal possession of stolen property; misdemeanor second-degree obstructing governmental administration; and misdemeanor resisting arrest.

Mendez and Graham were arraigned in the Town of Southeast Court and remanded to the Putnam County Jail. Both are scheduled to return to court on May 5.
