Taconic Traffic Stop Leads To Gun, Loaded High-Capacity Magazine, Stolen CT Plates: Sheriff

A Yonkers man and an Albany woman were arrested after the traffic stop in Putnam Valley, the Putnam County sheriff said.

PUTNAM VALLEY, NY — A traffic stop on the Taconic led to felony weapons charges against a New York pair.

Putnam County Sheriff Brian Hess announced that 22-year-old Peter Pacheco, of Yonkers, and 24-year-old Kaiya Wimbush, of Albany, were arrested for weapons offenses after a traffic stop in the Town of Putnam Valley.

On Sunday, around 3:05 a.m., a Putnam County Sheriff's Deputy stopped the vehicle on the southbound Taconic State Parkway.

During the investigation and a vehicle search, deputies found a loaded 9mm handgun, a loaded high-capacity magazine, and stolen Connecticut license plates.

Pacheco and Wimbush were arrested and taken to the Putnam County Correctional Facility for processing.

They were charged with felony second-degree criminal possession of a weapon (loaded firearm); felony third-degree criminal possession of a weapon (ammunition feeding device); felony criminal possession of a firearm; and misdemeanor fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.

Pacheco was also issued several uniform traffic tickets related to the stop.

The Putnam County District Attorney's Office recommended bail in the amount of $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond. After arraignment in the Town of Putnam Valley Court, Pacheco and Wimbush were released on their own recognizance.
