SOUTHEAST, NY — A traffic stop led to a felony arrest after troopers found something unexpected.
The New York State Police say that on July 10, around 10 p.m., members of the Troop K Community Stabilization Unit stopped a vehicle traveling east on I-84, in the town of Southeast, for traffic violations.
Police say neither the driver, 48-year-old Bienvenido R. Nunez, Jr., of Edison, New Jersey, nor the passenger, a 36-year-old woman, had a valid driver's license.
During an inventory conducted before the vehicle was impounded, troopers found a loaded, privately made .40-caliber handgun in the car, NYSP said. Nunez admitted to owning the weapon, according to cops.
He was arrested and charged with felony second-degree criminal possession of a weapon; and felony criminal possession of a firearm.
Nunez was arraigned in the Town of Kent Court and remanded without bail to the Putnam County Correctional Facility. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 16, in the Town of Southeast Court.
