PATTERSON, NY — A recent routine local traffic stop led to the arrest of a Danbury resident on a felony gun charge, according to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

Around 7 p.m., Sheriff's Deputy Nick Trupia saw a vehicle traveling in the Putnam Lake area with an expired registration and an obstructed license plate, officials said, in an announcement Wednesday.

The vehicle was pulled over, and deputies determined its registration was expired and it did not have valid insurance, according to the sheriff's office.

Freeze advised deputies on scene that there was a handgun inside the vehicle, officials said. Deputies recovered a loaded Smith & Wesson handgun from the passenger-side floor area.

Freeze did not possess a New York State pistol permit or any other valid pistol permit, officials said.

Deputies took Freeze into custody and transported him to the Putnam County Correctional Facility for processing.

Freeze was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, and he was issued an appearance ticket. He is due to appear in the Town of Patterson Justice Court at a later date.

Freeze was also issued multiple traffic tickets, and his vehicle was towed from the scene, officials said.
