Prosecutors say the investigation began in late December 2024, when members of the Catfish Pond Association and the Garrison Fish and Game Club reported suspected thefts to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office. Club members accused Kenny, who served as treasurer for both organizations, of stealing organizational funds over several years.

Investigators from the Putnam County Sheriff's Office and the Putnam County District Attorney's Office determined that Kenny had stolen a combined total of $212,000 from the two organizations over four years.

Evidence revealed that Kenny used the embezzled funds for personal use, including purchases of food, gasoline, cellphone expenses, dental bills, pet supplies, cigars, liquor, automotive and lawn equipment, building materials, dumpster rentals, as well as numerous charges at restaurants and bars throughout Putnam, Dutchess, Westchester and Orange counties, investigators said.

The investigation also found that food purchases were made at a local restaurant distributor after Kenny submitted a credit application in the name of one organization, adding both his name and his wife's name as authorized users on the account, according to investigators.

The investigation also uncovered several cash withdrawals made by the Kenny at ATM machines and at bank branches, investigators said.

After his arrest, in March 2025, Kenny moved to Orange County.

The case was prosecuted by Financial Crimes Assistant DA Melissa Lynch.
