CARMEl, NY — A two-car crash sent both vehicles into a building on Route 6 in Carmel.
The Halloween crash prompted an emergency response that included the Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department, Carmel Police Department, and Carmel Volunteer Ambulance Corp.
The Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department was operating at the scene with Carmel police and the ambulance corps. The crash left both vehicles in the building, creating structural concerns for first responders when they arrived.
First arriving units were able to make sure all occupants were safely out of the vehicles, according to fire officials. Crews then set up temporary shoring for the overhead roof after it had been compromised when two support columns were taken out by the vehicles.
The response focused first on removing immediate danger to those involved, and then on stabilizing the building. All occupants were safely out of the vehicles before crews addressed the damaged structure.
One crash victim was taken for medical evaluation.
Traffic in the area was slowed for approximately 50 minutes while the vehicles were removed. After the vehicles were cleared, the scene was turned over to the Town of Carmel building inspector.
