Arts on the Lake Poet Joe Lobel Headlines May Saturday Scribes Gathering

Poet's verse touches on nature, family, self, and culture

Saturday Scribes’ May 13th gathering at Studio Around the Corner will showcase poet Joe Lobel. The Studio is located at 67 Main Street, in Brewster, New York. A 7 p.m. open mic will be held for anyone wishing to share an excerpt of their work in progress. The headliner will follow immediately afterward.

Scribes regulars are familiar with Joe Lobel’s thoughtful verse. On the surface, his poems are often subdued, yet they are imbued with perceptive queries about nature, family, self, and culture. He is as skilled at touching on the subtle, easily overlooked moments of a chilly winter evening as he is at capturing myriad worries mulled over while performing routine chores.

Lobel has been a regular at Scribes’ meetings the last few years. He is a member of Carmel’s Arts on the Lake Writers Group and a founding member of the workshop’s blog, TalesfromtheLake.org. Lobel also serves as the group’s marketing director and treasurer.
