
Mahopac Marine, with support from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department Marine Unit and the Putnam County Police Benevolent Association, is holding a Armed Forces Appreciation Festival on Lake Mahopac on Saturday.
According to the Sheriff’s office website, it will include a BBQ picnic—with free food for all military personnel and veterans—plus various contests and a raffle with prizes.
The organizers have enlisted the New Yor State Parks &Rec “Wear-It” boat will be giving out free ice cream to the first 200 children they find wearing their life jackets.

And Mahopac Marina will have a snack barge selling food and drinks. All the proceeds will be donated to the Disabled American Veterans, organizers said. Donations will be accepted throughout the day and of the funds passed along.
The highlight of the day is expected to be a boat raft-off starting in the Mahopac Marina Cove around 12PM.

Putnam Sheriff Donald Smith will judge the boats to determine the winner of most patriotic themed vessel decorated with red white and blue. A trophy will be awarded to the winner.
