Brewster Firefighters Welcome Wounded NYPD Cop Home from Hospital
Patrick Espeut and his partner were shot while on patrol Thursday in the Bronx.
Patrick Espeut got a hero’s welcome from the Brewster Fire Department when he arrived home after being released from Lincoln Hospital.
Espeut was one of the two NYPD officers shot Thursday night while doing a ‘vertical patrol’ of the Melrose Houses in the Bronx. His partner Diara Cruz was hit in the torso below her bulletproof vest and underwent surgery. She is expected to survive. He was shot in the cheek.
He is a 2004 Brewster High School graduate and a technical sergeant in the Air National Guard, stationed at Stewart Air Force Base, The Journal News reported.
The shooter, who had been asked for identification and had opened fire while walking upstairs, then killed himself, telling friends he had just shot cops and didn’t want to return to jail.
