Brewster High School Celebrates 2nd Annual Thanksgiving Feast

Students Cook and Prepare the Meal Themselves

Brewster students and staff celebrated the 2nd annual Thanksgiving Feast yesterday. Students in the Career Skills class cooked everything— from the stuffing and mashed potatoes to the homemade muffins—and created all of the placemats, name cards, and other special details.

Students have been working hard since last week to get everything ready for the meal, adapting and persevering around unexpected time off due to weather.

In a welcome speech before the feast began, teachers Sarah Barnes and Donna Schneider thanked all of the staff and administrators who have been so supportive. Barnes also took time to thank student volunteers. “The hearts you guys have and what you’ve given our students is amazing,” she said. “Their faces light up when you walk in. They love having you here.”

Schneider referred to the feast as a Brewster family meal of sorts. “We are one big family in our program and we want everyone to feel that,” she said.

Before any food was served, everyone in the room took a moment to say what they were grateful for. That feeling of family was reflected in the most popular answers: staff and students acknowledged how thankful they felt not only for their own families, but for their Brewster family as well.
