Brewster High School Teacher Selected For Fulbright Global Classrooms Program

BREWSTER, NY — A Hudson Valley teacher has earned an impressive honor, that will help make the world just a little smaller and more wondrous.

A Brewster High School teacher has been selected for a yearlong Fulbright program focused on global education. Brittany Kozlenko, a science and P-TECH teacher, was notified this week that she has been awarded the opportunity to be a Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms participant.

The Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms Program is a yearlong professional learning opportunity and short-term exchange for elementary, middle, and high school educators from the United States. The program was conceived to help educators develop skills to prepare students for a competitive global economy and bring an international perspective to their schools through targeted training, experience abroad and global collaboration.

The district said the program is highly selective and is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and funded by the U.S. government. As part of the program, Kozlenko will participate in a semester-long course on best practices in global education. Once she passes that course, she will go to Washington, D.C., for several days in February for a global symposium.

After that, Kozlenko will travel to a country assigned through the program for two to three weeks sometime between March and August, according to the announcement. Throughout the year of the grant, she also will work on a capstone project that will be presented at the end of the program.

All of the participants have the opportunity to complete the rigorous, semester-long online course focused on best practices in global education, gather for an in-person professional development workshop in Washington, D.C., and travel abroad for two to three weeks to immerse themselves in another country's culture and education system.

The district announcement called it "an incredible opportunity" and "an even more impressive recognition."
