Brewster’s Waxing Crescent Student Candle Business Opens

Longview School students start a business as part of their studies.

Brewster’s new candle-making business, Waxing Crescent, officially opened on May 3rd, 2023. Waxing Crescent has begun producing a variety of beautiful and wonderfully scented astronomical candles.

This business was created by six students at Longview School in their middle/high school Start a Business Class. This class is a practicum in which students learn about starting a business and then actually start one. The students decided on an astronomy-themed candle business. They carefully hand-make all their candles in small batches with a special blend of soy and paraffin wax. Their candle making, including how to create spherical, colored, scented candles, and even some that include glitter. The candles are carefully handmade in small batches weekly at Longview School.

Waxing Crescent’s inventory features all eight planets of our solar system. For example, the red sandalwood-scented Mars candle or their pink rose-scented Venus candle swirled with glitter. Each candle is 8.5-9 oz and made with a special blend of soy and paraffin wax. Packaging is plastic-free.
