Brewster Street Sweeping and Hydrant Flushing Begins Monday
Move cars and trucks off the streets April 13 and 14, and expect discolored water on the 15th and 16th.

The street sweeper is scheduled to be on Brewster village streets Monday and Tuesday, April 13-14.
Village officials ask all residents: “Please move your vehicles off the streets to allow the best use of the machine.”
Hydrant flushing is scheduled for Wednesday.

This semi-annual necessary event maintains firefighting capabilities by ensuring maximum pressure at each hydrant.
Unfortunately it disturbs the sedimentation in the mains causing the discolored water at the tap. Once the mains settle again the water color will return to normal.

Always expect it to take 24-48 hours for the water to settle down.
“Do not run your water expecting it to get clear. That will not happen. The more the water is run the longer the disturbance and discoloration,” said Village Clerk Peter Brewster Hansen.
Discolored water could stain clothes so it would be best to refrain from laundry for a couple of days.
